Funding Model
De Marillac Academy is an independent school like no other in San Francisco. Unlike public schools with signifcant funding from tax revenue and traditional private schools with tuition income, De Marillac is dependent upon contributions.
While other schools may benefit from donations from parents and alumni, De Marillac exclusively serves familes at or below the poverty level. We rely upon the generousity of individuals, foundations, and the founding sponsors.

Student Profile
Itziel
Itziel is an extremely motivated student and a shining star in fourth grade. Itziel received first honors in the third quarter; she works very hard for her academic success by asking great questions in class and following up on grades she wants to improve. She is anxious to participate in co-curricular activities in school, such as choir and ballet. Her favorite subject is reading and she most enjoys reading the Dork Diaries series. She said, “I’m very happy my mom put me in DMA.”

Lasallian Volunteer Finds His Vocation |

Paul Avvento ’07 served as a Lasallian Volunteer for two years. He's now a teacher and the director of student activities at De Marillac Academy, while also pursuing his master's through the Lasallian Fellowship Program.
A secondary education major with a concentration in history, Paul Avvento ’07 became interested in the Lasallian Volunteer program while in Rome at the Young Lasallian Symposium in 2006. Many of the other representatives had been volunteers already, and their enthusiasm for the program rubbed off on him.
The former student body president had been heavily involved with campus ministry and social action, and even spent a summer living and working at Resurrection School in Harlem, a Christian Brothers school, doing summer school test prep for the students.
“So I got to see what it was like to live in communities and work in a school designed for kids who need special attention and special focus, which I really enjoyed doing,” he says.

98% of the 8th grade Class of 2012 (22 students) have been accepted to private, college preparatory high schools.

DMA's new principal, Mr. Chris Giangregorio, has been named this year's Bassen Service Award winner by the Lasallian Volunteer Program.
Congratulations Chris on this well-deserved honor; we are so grateful for your commitment to our mission!
The Bassen Service Award was named in honor of Brother Christopher Bassen, FSC (1942-2006). This award recognizes an alumnus of the Lasallian Volunteers who has continued a life of service since their volunteer year(s). Brother Chris lived and breathed De La Salle’s mission of service to the poor. Chris nourished and made real his dream of the Lasallian Educational Opportunities (L.E.O.) Center in Oakland, CA. L.E.O. continues to provide educational opportunity to “at-risk” youth and adults who may otherwise not receive the assistance, guidance and resources they need. The recipient of this award is an alumnus of the Lasallian Volunteer program who has incorporated the value of Lasallian service to the poor into the fabric of his/her life.

Precious
Precious, class of 2011 and current sophomore at Sacred Heart Cathedral, has been invited to the de Paul Scholars Program. This designation, which is given to students with the highest grades and test scores, grants access to courses that are more intimate and academically rigorous. Precious is the very first De Marillac alum to receive this distinction, and will receive special honors at graduation. In addition to succeeding academically, Precious is a also member of the Varsity Cross Country and JV Track teams. We are proud of Precious and look forward to seeing her shine in the coming years!
