De Marillac Academy recently celebrated the graduation of its largest class.
On May 28th, 21 eighth graders received diplomas, completing their three-year academic career at De Marillac. In a neighborhood with the lowest educational attainment in San Francisco, 90% of the graduating class will attend college preparatory high schools in the fall, including Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, Archbishop Riordan High School and Mercy High School of San Francisco. Overall, more than 70% of De Marillac’s alumni in high school are enrolled in a private/college preparatory high school. “We are proud of the work of our graduates. Their success is a testament to De Marillac Academy’s mission of offering a tuition-free, quality education to students from some of San Francisco’s poorest neighborhoods,” said De Marillac President Mike Daniels. “Every child, regardless of economic status, deserves a good education and the opportunity to succeed and dream of a bright future.” “From day one, we prepare our students for the rigors of high school and have them thinking about college,” stated Principal Eileen Emerson. “For many of our graduates, they will be the first in their families to attend a college or university.” |
