Health Champions, a project of California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), has been partnering with De Marillac to create a healthier school community since the spring of 2004. This endeavor promotes healthy lifestyles through physical fitness and nutritious food choices.
Ms. Amy Adkins, former Health Champions Project Manager, cites heightened awareness as one of the greatest accomplishments of the program. Ms. Adkins commented, “Students have embraced health champions by not only recognizing healthy food decisions, but also by articulating the importance of these choices to their peers and their families. By combining nutrition education and food preparation, with hands-on physical activities like mountain biking and rope climbing, we have established a culture of health consciousness that permeates throughout the De Marillac community, amongst students, families, teachers, and staff.” ACTIVITIES: A student council member leads student health and wellness activities to further promote student empowerment. “Students as Educators” facilitates training for students to more fully serve as peer and family teachers in nutrition education. | SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS |
