Police Chief Meets with De Marillac Parents |
|
The De Marillac Academy Parent Safety Meeting on Wednesday, November 4, provided the 150 parents and students in attendance with the opportunity to dialogue with police and community leaders regarding safety in the Tenderloin.
San Francisco Police Chief George Gascón addressed the families in both English and Spanish, recognizing the progress made by “Operation Safe Schools” while also stressing the importance of community members’ collaboration with local police in making the streets safe for the students of De Marillac. Incoming Tenderloin Police Station Captain Dominic Celaya assured the families that the Tenderloin Station will continue its strong collaboration with the school, and Walter Ricketts of the St. Anthony Foundation Client and Safety Services informed the parents of the St. Anthony staff leadership on Golden Gate Avenue in providing daily oversight of students and families as they arrive and depart the school. Also in attendance were Police Commissioner Thomas Mazzucco, De Marillac benefactor and Saint Mary’s College Regent Fred Naranjo, and additional officers representing the Tenderloin Police Station. De Marillac Academy looks forward to the ongoing development of its partnership with law enforcement, business, and civic leaders in striving to ensure the safety and well-being of its 115 fourth through eighth graders, 94 alumni in high school and college, and hundreds of school family members and supporters. |
